Tertiary Treatment Processes for Modern Wastewater Treatment Plants
Introduction Tertiary treatment processes have been used for many years to reduce levels of suspended solids and associated BOD in effluents from wastewater treatment plants. More recently tertiary stages have been applied to removal of other pollutants, particularly nutrients. This course will review the design and operation of the main available technologies and their commercial applications. Implications for other parts of the process flowsheet will be discussed. Techniques for suspended solids discussed will include natural systems, micro-screening and sand filtration. Nitrification and denitrification tertiary processes will be discussed. Finally, novel applications for tertiary processes will be described. ProgrammeIntroduction to tertiary treatment • Brief history • Reasons for tertiary treatment Suspended solids separation processes • Natural treatment systems • Microstraining systems • Sand filtration systems-rapid gravity • Sand filtration continuous backwash Flowsheet considerations • Flow splitting and part flow treatment. • Disinfection processes • Energy use, return liquors, flow variations Processes for tertiary nitrification/denitrification • Biological aerated filters and submerged aerated filters. • Anoxic filters Stormwater treatment Date & LocationA new course date will be set once enough interest has been received - email clarehunter@aquaenviro.co.uk to register your interest.
