These upgrades are being carried out for Yorkshire Water as part of the European Freshwater Fisheries Directive, which involves the investment of £220 million over five years to upgrade many of their major wastewater treatment works.

In 2005 ARUP commissioned Aqua Enviro to provide support operating their pilot plants (above) to provide the data upon which the new works would be designed.  Aqua Enviro are now working with ARUP and their contractors – Morgan Est, Laing O’Rourke and Black and Veatch, to carry out sampling and analysis to aid in the commissioning of the works.  Additionally, Aqua Enviro has also been able to provide microscopic analysis of the activated sludge plants and lithium tracer studies to aid in process investigation.

So far Neiley (Huddersfield), Copley (Halifax) and Lundwood (Barnsley) wastewater treatment works have been successfully commissioned and over the next 12 months some Aqua Enviro will be involved in many more schemes including Esholt and Knostrop, two of Yorkshire Waters largest works.
