Laboratory Scale Anaerobic Digestion TrialsPotentially suitable wastes will be identified, taking into account the quantities and locations of available material. Laboratory scale trials will then be carried out using a number of selected wastes to provide a comprehensive appraisal of the impact of co-digestion on process performance, biogas production and digestate quality.  This will include an assessment of combining advanced pre-treatment technologies with co-digestion.

The trial data will be used to help determine what charging mechanisms would need to be employed for the importation of wastes for treatment by co-digestion or by other means using water company assets.  The final report is due to be issued by UKWIR in 2011.
